Jesus is coming—the marvelously heartwarming theme of Paul’s two electrifying epistles to the Thessalonian believers—is a stirring, rejuvenating communiqué of vibrant hope, one they desperately needed to hear. In today’s post 9/11 world where we seemingly lurch from crisis to crisis, this is a message we do well to take on board.

Paul sees himself as a role model to these believers and especially in the whole area of work. It is obvious that Paul was a hard worker himself and, leading by example, he expected others to follow suit. In that sense, the preacher-cum-tentmaker was exemplary.
